Attendance & RSVP
You've been invited to our wedding! Your invitation should lay out what you've been invited to, whether that's the reception, or the ceremony too. If we've asked you to be part of our wedding party, we'll be hoping to see you there all day, but we'll discuss that with you directly. If you're not sure about anything, let us know and we can talk it through.
Everyone is invited to the reception in the evening, arriving any time from 6pm, but ideally before 7pm. We are also having a ceremony earlier in the afternoon, but due to space, we're keeping this pretty small. Your invite will be clear on which bit you should be attending, but we will be happy to discuss it directly. As a general rule, if you've had to travel internationally, you will be invited to the ceremony as well.
We can take RSVPs in whatever way works for you! The easiest is probably the form on the RSVP page. We can also take RSVPs via email (rsvp@atling.securedemails.co.uk). Your invitation should also have carried a QR code directly to the form, and we've provided some hard copy RSVPs in with your invitations. Just post these back to:
Aisling Goodey & Atlas Martin
287D High Street
Perth
PH1 5QN
UNITED KINGDOM
We can also talk through any concerns you have via phone, video call, text, messenger, email or face to face.
We’ve also added a few more short forms on the website to gather information on any particular considerations we should make in terms of access, comfort or just things to think about! Please make use of these if you have any thoughts or would like to make sure we make certain adjustments.
If you're coming for the ceremony, come any time between 12:30pm and 1:45pm. We'd recommend being there by 1:30pm at the latest to ensure you can get to the ceremony site and seated in time. You should be aware that delays are very possible. If you are coming for the reception, we'd request you be there by 7pm, though we will be ready for you any time from 6pm. Given the relaxed evening, it’s no problem if you need to arrive late.
If you're late for the ceremony, it may be quite difficult to find it. Please bear in mind that the ceremony will be ongoing and try to arrive quietly. Even if you were assigned a seat near the front, we would ask you to sit in the back row if you arrive late to avoid interrupting the ceremony. If you're late for the reception, no worries!
Yourself! Anything you feel will help you feel more comfortable throughout the day, including any on-the-go toiletries (though please note we will supply some in the bathrooms). If you’re staying at the estate, remember that it’s self-catering, so you will need your dining provisions for any meals we’re not providing for you!
We want everyone to feel comfortable, so we don’t have a strict dress code. However, the general vibe for the party is cocktail/formal, so most people will be dressed up in dresses, suits or kilts. Our dress code is gender neutral and we encourage guests to be themselves. We would ask that the social norm of not wearing white is observed (excepting dress shirts, ties etc).
PLEASE NOTE: Stilletos may not be worn in parts of the venue, including the pavilion, without heel protectors, so we recommend avoiding stilleto heels. The paths outside are all gravel and grass, and are often uneven or on a hill. We recommend that guests consider this when selecting their shoes, and bring alternative shoes if necessary.
Food & Drink
Let us know what it is and we'll do our best to make sure you have suitable options. If you're concerned, particularly about cross-contamination etc, speak to us, as there is provision to allow guests to bring their own cold foods if they need to. However, we would prefer to ensure you were adequately catered for in the first instance. Please remember however that we're not professional event planners and we cannot guarantee the event will be totally safe for everyone. We'll do all we can to mitigate risk based on what you tell us, and talk to you so that you can make risk based decisions with as much information as possible.
Absolutely! We are vegetarian and vegan ourselves, so we will heavily be catering for those using a vegan caterer.
Let us know what it is and we'll do our best. Please also let us know if you have allergies to anything that might be near the food, such as food servers wearing latex gloves etc. If you're concerned, particularly about cross-contamination etc, speak to us, as there is provision to allow guests to bring their own cold foods if they need to in order to feel safer. The food & drinks page will be updated as we confirm options with the bar and caterers. It will all be vegan or vegetarian and will be clearly marked.
The food & drinks page will be updated as we confirm options with the bar and caterers. There will be a fairly standard bar mix of alcoholic and soft drinks. You may be asked for ID if you look under 25 and sale of alcohol will be denied if you are under 18 years old. Water is always free and will be readily available.
No, venue staff will confiscate any drinks brought in to the pavilion. Water is always free and there will be plenty very readily available to keep you hydrated. Let us know if you have any concerns about drinks.
We know everyone is different, and everyone's recovery is unique. Please talk to us directly about anything that might make our wedding safer for you and support your recovery. We can discuss this sensitively and confidentially and have links with people who work with AA and NA who can keep us right or help us accommodate your requests. Venue & Accessibility
The pavilion is wheelchair accessible, as is the ground floor of the castle. Outside paths are grass and gravel, so while there are step free routes, this may be challenging. Please let us know if you plan to bring a wheelchair or may need to do so on the day (or if at the last minute you need to do so). We will do our best to make that as smooth an experience as possible if we have prior knowledge. Please remember however that we're not professional event planners and we cannot guarantee the event will be totally safe for everyone. We'll do all we can to mitigate risk based on what you tell us, and talk to you so that you can make risk based decisions with as much information as possible.
Please contact us if you have or may have mobility difficulties. While there are step free routes through most of our day, our rain plan for the ceremony does involve stairs, and there is a bit of walking between areas on uneven grass and gravel paths. However, if we know that there may be mobility issues, we will do our best to make sure there are measures in place to support you. Please let us know. Please remember however that we're not professional event planners and we cannot guarantee the event will be totally safe for everyone. We'll do all we can to mitigate risk based on what you tell us, and talk to you so that you can make risk based decisions with as much information as possible.
Please get in touch with us if this is a factor for you. We will adapt where we need to and ensure that we have provisions to make our ceremony and speeches accessible. At minimum, there should be microphones available. Please remember however that we're not professional event planners and we cannot guarantee the event will be totally safe for everyone. We'll do all we can to mitigate risk based on what you tell us, and talk to you so that you can make risk based decisions with as much information as possible.
The ground floor of the castle consists of a small chapel, library and drawing room. One floor up, there is the long gallery, where our ceremony will be held if there is rain. This involves stairs, so please get in touch if this may be an issue and you are attending the ceremony, as we will adapt our plans. Just outside the main hall and drawing room of the castle is the courtyard. Our drinks reception will be held in the courtyard and drawing room.
The Belvedere is a wooded ceremony space, which is where our ceremony will take place in good weather. It is approximately 5 minutes walk on gravel and grass from the castle. Let us know if this may cause issues for you.
Parking is somewhat downhill from the castle, so please also let us know if this may cause issues for you.
The lawns and grounds of the castle are extensive. The lawns will be available for lawn games during the drinks reception. Ossian’s lawn is up behind the pavillion, and will host a mini highland games. Behind the castle (from the point of view of the courtyard) is the games room and swimming pool.
The pavilion is a large, semi-temporary structure, with an entry hall, main hall and corridor with toilets. We aim to have a very large open dance floor to ensure there’s plenty of space for ceilidh dances. The corridor of toilets is to the left of the bar. This consists of a bathroom with stalls, a bathroom with urinals, and an accessible bathroom.
Definitely! Let us know that you are or may be in a wheelchair and we'll ensure you have space at your table. We'll also have a seat ready if you prefer.
Definitely. We'll endeavour to make sure there is plenty of space to get around everywhere, but if you have concerns, we'll make sure those are addressed specifically, just let us know.
There is one accessible toilet, which is fully enclosed with a floor to ceiling door. If you need an individual/private toilet, please use this one. We remind guests that this is an accessible toilet, not a disabled-only toilet, and that not all disabilities are visible, so people are free to use any toilet as it aligns with their needs.
If you need a support worker, carer or a trusted family member or friend in order to have a safe and comfortable time at the wedding, please let us know so we can factor them in to the cost and the numbers.
It should be as we will avoid strobe lighting. However, we know that people have varying triggers, so we would ask that you let us know about your specific triggers so that we can ensure that they are eliminated or clearly identified ahead of time. This will also allow us to fully brief photographers and guests on the use of flashes in photography. Please remember however that we're not professional event planners and we cannot guarantee the event will be totally safe for everyone. We'll do all we can to mitigate risk based on what you tell us, and talk to you so that you can make risk based decisions with as much information as possible.
We would definitely like it to be! People vary, some struggle in low light, and some struggle in bright light. We will try to find the best middle ground so that everyone feels safe and comfortable. Please let us know about any concerns you have or what types of light are difficult for you to deal with and what sorts of light are ideal. We can also endeavour to provide accessibility lamps/lights for guests who require additional lighting at any points. We hope to create some quieter chill out spaces with games for those that need to get away from the lights or noises. Talk to us directly and/or fill out the accessibility & safety form. We can talk confidentially, and you can give us as many or as few details as you feel will allow us to cater for your concerns. We would particularly be keen to know if you are concerned about something happening during the wedding, such as fainting spells, blackouts or seizures. If you let us know what signs there might be, we can also highlight these (subject to your consent) to venue staff and vendors so that we can respond quickly. We are doing everything we can to mitigate the overwhelming aspects of our wedding. Alongside our work on sensory issues, guests will be able to move around between the pavilion and outside easily. Dinner will be relaxed and at your own pace. We hope to create some quieter chill out spaces with games for those that need to get away from the lights or noises. We are surrounded by lawns, a small loch and beautiful forests if you need to take a walk for a breather.
Transport
Yes, there's a sizeable car park at the castle, just down the hill from the castle. There is also limited space by the castle for drop offs and pick ups if needed for accessibility reasons. Those staying in cottages on the estate may also have parking available close to their accommodation. Please note all parking is on gravel.
Fingask Castle is located half way between Perth and Dundee. A map, what3words and details of how to reach it by various means can be found on our Transport page.
There is limited space to stop and turn around at the castle itself, which can be used to drop off guests with limited mobility before parking. If you need to be able to park by the castle (eg the driver has limited mobility), please let us know so we can discuss and plan with the venue.
Accommodation
There is some accommodation at Fingask Castle, but this is currently reserved for the wedding party. Unfortunately, a large chunk of the accommodation had already been booked prior to booking our wedding, so we are unable to offer excess accommodation onsite.
The castle is about half way between Perth and Dundee, and some hotels are detailed on our Accommodations page, but many of these could be booked from standard services. There is also some accommodation in rural areas nearby and self-catering is common in rural Perthshire.
Some some of our guests are first aid trained and we will have first aid kits available on site.
In emergencies, call 999, our emergency number. For non-emergencies, call 111 for NHS 24. They can provide advice over the phone, or book you an appointment at the out of hours clinic at the closest hospital and help arrange transport to it.

Activities
We aim to have plenty of area for chats both in the pavilion, outside, and in the games room on the other side of the castle. There will be chairs for everyone both inside and outside. We'll have some table games and lawn games available if you don't want to dance, and the games room will have board games and books for more quiet socialisation. If it’s just a case of not enjoying or feeling like you’re “bad” at dancing, we will have a mix of structured dances (ceilidh dancing) which will have a caller to support those who don’t know the steps, and unstructured dancing with a DJ. I (Aisling) can’t dance, don’t dance etc most of the time, but LOVE a ceilidh, so would recommend giving it a go if you’re not sure!
We'll have some lawn games and table games available, many of which will be suitable for children. Some of our quiet area games and books will also be suitable for children, but we ask that this area is reserved for calm and quiet play time. We will also have table activities such as colouring and puzzles for children, and fun challenges like guest bingo and a photo scavenger hunt.

Schedule
Some people will be staying at the castle that are not in the wedding party. We want to make sure everyone gets to make the most of their time at the castle, and even if much of the accommodation at the castle is self-catering, we want to provide opportunities for bringing people together and getting to know each other before the wedding. People may need different amounts of time to get ready, and this gives people who do not need as much time something to do while they wait.
We'll release an order for the ceremony on the Schedules page. We will follow a traditional humanist ceremony with handfasting.
We want to have enough time to take photos with all of our friends and family, and also take 10-15 minutes for ourselves to process the ceremony. Guests can use this time to get settled at the castle, freshen up, take a short walk, have a drink or have some fun with lawn games, the games room and pool, or the mini-highland games at Ossian’s Lawn.
We will feel most fresh at the start of the day, before any of the activities and when we've just had makeup or hair done or straightened our outfits. The bride and groom still won't see each other before the ceremony, but this gives us time to get some nice photos with our respective parties and immediate family who are getting ready with us before we move to the ceremony. Then after the ceremony, we can focus more on time with our friends and extended families afterwards!
Yes! Let us know if this would help you and we'll put one together for you.
Children
Yes, but please talk to us about bringing children if we haven’t specified them in your invite. Our wedding is child friendly, but please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We'll try and have some things to entertain them, but all children are different, and you may wish to bring their own toys or activities to keep them busy. We just ask that these are not overly noisy. We would also encourage you to consider the schedule and whether your child will be able to sit through a whole day or be kept entertained.
We will have some child friendly activities, but these may be minimal. They may include photo scavenger hunts, colouring and puzzle pages, or some board games and books in the quiet games room.
There are a number of childminders and babysitters in the area, but we couldn't make any specific recommendations. Look for sitters who have PVG (protection of vulnerable groups) certificates for work with children and first aid qualifications. We'll try to help find someone if you're coming from further away and need help, just get in touch.
We'll be talking to the venue about making space for an "escape zone" for people who really need to get away from everyone and take a minute, and for children who need a nap. Let us know if this is a consideration for you and we'll update you directly. Otherwise, stay tuned.
Pets
We know many of our friends and family travel with their pets or would prefer not to leave them for a whole day, and we love dogs, but they are not permitted in the castle or the pavilion. They are allowed in the cottages on site, so if you are staying on the estate, please check with Fingask castle about what you can and can’t do with them while you attend the wedding. We would ask that if you have a dog on the estate at all, you keep your them on a lead, even if they are friendly. Other dogs may be nervous or not keen to interact, and this allows each owner to do what is best for their dog. Please do not allow your dog to approach another dog without express consent from the other dog's owner as they will know best whether their dog will be able to cope with that. Please also consider whether your dog will feel comfortable on the estate as they may need to be left for long periods of time. You are responsible for ensuring your dog does not cause damage to the property, and for properly cleaning up after your dog, including full disposal of waste. Dog care is available through Solo Paws in Stanley for cats or dogs.
Probably not. As dogs are allowed on the estate in the cottages, you are welcome to discuss this with Fingask if you are staying in the cottages, but it is unlikely to be permitted.
Religion & Beliefs
Not at all. Our guests are from many different faiths and none. We want our wedding to be a safe and comfortable event for all, regardless of faith or beliefs.
This wedding will have a low level of religious content, and will follow more traditional Celtic traditions. However, we are both from Catholic families, and some reference and acknowledgement may be included. There may be a short blessing. We know that for some, religion has not been a very safe or supportive space. If you have any concerns, please talk to us. Our wedding is a safe space for all, regardless of your religion, whether you follow one, or your past experience of religion and religious groups.
Gifts
We're not. This is less common in Scotland, and we have decided not to do so. We are not asking for any gifts as we feel that the gift of your presence in our lives and at our wedding celebrating with us is more than enough, but we know that cultures differ and this may be uncomfortable for some. If this question pops up more, we will look into accommodating. However, if you feel uncomfortable coming without a gift, here are some thoughts:
We would welcome contribution to the cost of our wedding so that we can all enjoy your gift together or our honeymoon.
We would be honoured if you made a donation or sponsorship in our name.
We would love to have a community, friendly feel to our wedding, so perhaps you could gift us your time and/or skills at our wedding.
If you provide a vendor service that might typically be present at a wedding, we would love to support local business, and particularly our friends and family’s businesses, so while we think your services are probably far too much to gift as we would like to ensure that you are appropriately valued and compensated for your time and skill, perhaps your gift could be better sized as a smaller discount.
We don't need any gifts, and your presence in our lives and celebrating our wedding with us is enough for us. We just want to spend a wonderful few days with our friends and family. However, if you feel uncomfortable coming without a gift, here are some thoughts:
We would welcome contribution to the cost of our wedding so that we can all enjoy your gift together or our honeymoon.

Absolutely not. We're just looking forward to spending a wonderful day with our friends and family.
Absolutely, we're honoured you would wish to do this, and we love that we would be able to enjoy your gift together.

If this question pops up a lot, we'll look at creating a wedding registry. However, we will be touched by any gift you decide to give us. We love....
Photos & Video
Talk to us, and we'll make sure we don't schedule you for any of the formal photos. You can also then avoid the whole party photos. We can also inform the photographers and videographers of your preferences and they will avoid photographing you. Some candid/whole room shots may not be able to avoid you in the background, but we can review all our photos for you. We can also discuss your seating to make you most comfortable in avoiding photos or videos.
Of course, we'd love to see everyone's viewpoint and experience, and encourage taking photos. We would ask that you refrain from photos or videos at the ceremony, and certainly avoid flash. Our photographers are highly skilled and will capture all the key moments of our ceremony. Above all, please make sure you don't block the photographer or videographer from getting a shot, particularly in the aisle. At the reception, you can go wild. We have an online drive for photos, and would request that you send us any photos you take through that, we'd love to have as wide a selection as possible. In return, we'll share the wedding photos through that drive.
