Coaches

For those travelling from Perth, we will be hiring a coach to and from the castle at the following times:

Perth to Fingask Castle leaving Perth 1pm

Perth to Fingask Castle leaving Perth 6pm

Fingask Castle to Perth leaving Fingask midnight

If there are sizeable numbers of guests staying in other locations (eg Dundee), we may hire an additional minibus/coach. Please let us know where you’re staying, whether you’d like to get one of these shuttles or whether you’d like to be counted towards the viability of a second vehicle.

Driving & Parking

The castle is accessible by car, around half-way between Perth and Dundee. Please be aware that many of the roads around the castle are narrow, often single track. The turn into the private road to the castle is sharp, and there is then about half a mile of gravel road to the castle.

From Perth/Stirling/Glasgow/Edinburgh/Inverness: Take the A90 Perth-Dundee dual carriageway. About 12 miles from Perth, just after the Shell garage, take the Inchmichael junction turn off left and then right turning, following signs to Rait for approx half a mile until small crossroads, turn right- following signs to ‘Fingask; then take the first driveway on the left (opposite a white house). Curve up to your right to the top of the driveway.

From Dundee/Aberdeen/Fife:

Take the A90 Dundee-Perth dual carriageway. About 10 miles from Dundee you will pass a caravan sales and the Horn Bar, take the Inchmichael junction go over the flyover heading for the village of Rait for approx half a mile until you come to a small crossroads, turn right- following signs to ‘Fingask’- then take the first driveway on the left (opposite a white house). Curve up to your right to the top of the driveway.

There is plenty of parking on gravel, and there are signposts along the drive towards parking. Keep a look out, these can be quite small or faded. If you need to drop off someone who can’t walk or can’t walk much, you can drive up to the castle.

If you intend to drive and you have extra seats in your car, please consider whether you could carpool with others nearby. If you would like to offer a seat in your car, let us know, including where you’re coming from, any time restrictions and whether you’re happy with children in the car.

Carpooling

If you are driving and would be happy to take other guests in your car, please let us know where you’re traveling from, how many seats you have, and whether you’re happy with kids or have any time restrictions.

We’ll then be in touch to make introductions if we have guests that would like to ask about a lift.

If you are attending the wedding and would like to be considered for a place in a carpool, please get in touch and let us know where you’re coming from, how many seats in a car you need, whether you have kids with you and whether you are wanting to arrive late or leave early. We’ll do our best to match you up with a driver going the same way.

Taxis

There are no taxis at the Castle, as it is very rural. There are taxi companies in Perth and Dundee that may travel to the castle, but please be aware that these could be quite expensive. We would recommend you group together with others traveling the same direction to keep costs down.

Active Travel

The castle is quite rural. We would not recommend anyone cycle or walk any part of the route. The roads are narrow and do not have pavements (sidewalks) or segregated cycle lanes. The castle is also on a bit of a hill, so there is a half mile private gravel road up to the castle.

If you do wish to cycle or walk any part of it (eg the last leg if you take a bus), please ensure you cycle as if you are a regular road user (eg keep left) or if you are walking, walk towards oncoming traffic. We do have the right to responsible access in Scotland, which means that you can walk through any land, as long as you are responsible and do not damage anything (such as crops). If you do this, please be aware of livestock - particularly bulls.

Public Transport

The castle is not very accessible by public transport. We would recommend that you only use public transport to connect with the coach or with a carpool option.

The number 51 bus is the bus that comes closest to the castle, but still requires a half hour walk uphill, with some walking on public roads. This can connect with the 16 from Perth or the Ember bus from Dundee.

Stagecoach Buses

Ember buses

The closest train stations are Invergowrie, Dundee and Perth. Invergowrie is also quite rural, so would likely require you traveling into Dundee anyway, so we would recommend using Dundee or Perth stations.

The closest airport is Dundee, but this is small and mostly limited to domestic travel, with occasional European connections. If traveling by plane, you are most likely to arrive in to Edinburgh, or possibly Glasgow. From Edinburgh Airport, you can easily connect with hire cars, or take the tram to Ingliston Park & Ride for buses or Edinburgh Gateway to connect with the train.

Carbon Offsetting

We are conscious that people may be traveling quite long distances to make it to our wedding, we are very grateful that you are making that effort and likely incurring quite a cost to be here with us. Obviously we are keen to mitigate the impact of our wedding as much as possible, but this is not always doable. If you would feel comfortable telling us how you intend to travel or have travelled, we would love to be able to offset as much of the carbon equivalent impact we still have after mitigation, by funding climate positive initiatives. You’re also very welcome to recommend initiatives that we could back.
